Instants
Photo Banner show at the Alliance Française
San Francisco, February 2010.
I
had the chance to show my work at the Alliance Français.
I presented two studies
that are part of my long time passion
and investigation about moments and instants.
Here is a quick tour of
the show for those who couldn't see it live.
Enjoy.
Serie 1

Study of a graveyard, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Elarged
print of polaroid on vinyl outdoor banner (size 2' x 3')
The objective of this study was to play with the juxtaposition of
the subject (death) and the medium used to capture it (polaroid camera).
I found the contrast between the location (a final eternal resting place)
and the instantaneous camera system to be interesting.
I printed these pictures on an outdoor support so that they can be shown outside
without concerns the about the fragility typical of photographic prints.
I also like the look of the print on plastic. It ads a bluriness and a strange
feeling
that accentuate the emotions and the relation between the subject and the
support.

Serie 2

Ambiances
du moment.
holga
photo print on vinyl outdoor banner (size 2' x 3' - 3' x 3')
I took those picture between 2003 and 2004 in France.
I used a Holga camera for this project because I like the effect of the
plastic lens on the subject. I use a vivid color film to get more
contrast and strong colors. I choosen the Holga camera and the film because
they accentuate both the
emotion and the "in between" feeling that you find
in moments.
the
process of printing on banners accentuates the blurry/out of focus effect
of
the Holga lens. The banner also gives a nice dimension to the picture when
hung
on a wall. The characteristics of the support heighten the power of the subject.
They become more alive and more real, they captured the intensity of moment
and
they drive you to imagine more of it. This power contrasts with the blurriness
and
the mysterious atmosphere effect. I like this duality between reality and
imaginary,
representation and interpretation.
